Alan received his B.S.B.A. in Finance in 1976 and his J.D. degree in 1980 from the University of Denver. As adjunct faculty to the Daniels College of Business-Department of Legal Studies from 1982-1996, he lectured on business law to M.B.A. candidates and undergraduates.
